ReadyFern policies

Privacy

A clear account of the parent account, child learning profiles, and website tools present in ReadyFern today.

Effective date: owner review required before launch.

Draft for review. These business policies need owner and attorney review before launch. Items marked OWNER REVIEW REQUIRED are not settled terms.

The account belongs to the parent

ReadyFern is a web app for parents preparing short math, phonics, and spelling practice for children in grades K–5. A parent creates and manages the account and any child profiles. The current app does not create child accounts or provide child logins. A profile uses a nickname, grade, subject, chosen skill, and optional interests. Please use a nickname and avoid adding a child’s full name or sensitive personal details.

To register, the parent provides an email address and password; a name field is available but optional. ReadyFern uses Convex for account sign-in and the app backend.

Learning information in the app

The app stores parent-managed profiles with a nickname, grade, subject, skill focus, optional interests, and pack count. It also saves generated packs under the parent account, including practice prompts and answers, a parent note, the selected subject and skill, creation time, and any feedback the parent submits (Too Easy, Just Right, Too Hard, or Needs more practice).

These records support pack generation and lesson history. The current profile and history features are scoped to the signed-in parent account.

Website tools and information flows

Convex provides parent sign-in and app data storage. Authentication uses browser cookies to maintain a signed-in session.

PostHog analytics starts when its storefront key is configured. The current code enables page-view capture, automatic interaction capture, and exception capture. It also records events such as sign-up steps, pricing views, plan selections, and checkout completion. PostHog persistence is configured for local storage and a cookie. The exact analytics project settings are controlled outside this codebase.

When a visitor reaches checkout, the site can add PostHog distinct and session identifiers, plus available UTM source, medium, and campaign values, to the checkout link. UTM values are kept in session storage while navigating the site.

MadeThis provides the hosted checkout and order lookup used by the storefront. A purchase receipt and password-reset message are sent through the MadeThis notification proxy. The app’s own forms do not ask for payment-card details; payment information is entered through the hosted checkout.

The current math and phonics/spelling pack flow uses code-based rules and examples. No external generative-AI provider is wired into that pack-generation flow in the source reviewed for this draft.

Browser storage

ReadyFern uses authentication cookies for parent sessions. When configured, PostHog uses a browser cookie and local storage for analytics persistence. The site also uses session storage for UTM campaign values that may be passed to hosted checkout.

OWNER REVIEW REQUIRED: confirm whether a cookie or analytics choice notice is needed for the intended launch markets, and whether the deployed analytics settings match this description.

Requests about information

A parent can contact us about a profile or account information request. There is no verified in-app account or profile deletion flow in the code reviewed for this draft, and the retention period is not specified here.

OWNER REVIEW REQUIRED: define how identity is verified for access, correction, export, or deletion requests; what happens to profile and pack history when an account closes; and the applicable retention periods before launch.

Policy details to confirm before launch

OWNER REVIEW REQUIRED: identify the legal operator of ReadyFern and confirm the full list of hosting, analytics, authentication, checkout, and email service providers and their applicable privacy terms. This draft does not make a claim about regulatory compliance.
